lake of Fire

The goal of this trip was simple. Sail for a couple weeks through the most treacherous ocean on the planet and climb an unclimbed peak, that just so happened to also be an active volcano.

While not the most physically demanding expedition i’ve worked on, this was without a doubt the most difficult to film. Not only were the cameras unhappy with the noxious gases and constant gale force winds, but every single camera shit the bed at one point or another because of the rime ice build-up.

On top of being a difficult project to film, it turned out to be an even more difficult project to escape from. After returning from filming at the summit, we found out that the boat that dropped us off could not come to shore, due to the waves breaking so high. By the time we moved all our gear to the zodiac, it was nighttime, which mean wading into the pitch black abyss and swimming past microwave sized blocks of ice to get to the boat.

10/10 would do again.
